Pedal power is making a come back. But this time, with fewer moving parts for even greater efficiency. [This is purely conceptual, but feel free to dream along.]
Revolutionary Venom Line: This innovative machine has attitude. It’s one of the first bikes in the world to have no rear hub. That’s right, no rear hub. The rear wheel has a special magnetically polarized rim that is suspended inside the frame, where it floats inside a magnetic suspension field. You’ve already figured out what that means. Fewer moving parts, less friction, more speed! As an added plus, the magnetic suspension field cushions your ride. The drive train is also based on a magnetic principle, so powering the pedals creates incredible speed in no time.
Too bad this is a hoax; the Venom just begs to star in a SciFi film or TV show –Tron meets Quicksilver
. But can you do tricks with a hubless bike? Here’s an interesting article on learning how to track stand (balance on your bike when it’s not moving). The future is accelerating under its own power. Update: Readers are the New Editors A special thanks to TheDescriptor for keeping a watchful eye on Portension’s folly.
