Posted On: 19 December 2007 By: Jay Oatway Filed Under: Climate Burn | One Word: "Plastics" | Runway Hard-Wear

A popular resolution for the 2008 New Year: use fewer disposable plastic bags. Here are some trendy alternatives that will have you looking good as you save the planet [via Trendhunter, Pink Tentacle ]:

The Bra Bag

The world famous lingerie maker Truimph International Japan has lifted the curtain on a brand new brassiere that doubles up as a shopping bag.

This bra is known as “No! Shopping Bag Bra” and is expected to greatly reduced the use of plastic bags by shoppers in Japan. It’s no wonder that these Japanese will find all sorts of ways to keep our environment clean.
This lingerie is made from the Teijin Group’s ECOPET brand of polyester fiber, which has been properly recycled from plastic bottles courtesy of the company’s original EcoCircle recycling system. This exceptional piece of underwear has many color combinations you can have it in red, blue, green, yellow and pink.

Xposed Grocery Bag:
Get in touch with your inner stuff. For those of us that like seeing the airport security X-ray of our bags, here’s one that will get you flagged as a potential terrorist (notice the revolver in the bottom of the bag?), while at the same time saving the planet from the tsunami of plastic bags that are flooding every landfill.

I’m not a plastic bag

Fashion Designer Anya Hindmarch is doing here share in giving back to society with her latest SUPER CULT FOLLOWING bag called “I’m not a Plastic Bag”. The concept is to replace plastic shopping bags at the supermarket with your own shopping tote. Anya sells her tote for USD$15.00. The “I’m not a Plastic Bag” quickly became the “IT” bag to have to the point where people are selling knock offs.

I’m not a smug twat
Shaped just like Anya Hindmarch’s bag, with the same coloring & style, this bag also helps the environment—provided one actually uses it while shopping—and pokes fun at the fashionistas who just don’t get it.

Eco-Coture Anti-Hero
The 091 Estudio, an avant-garde Design and Marketing Consultancy based in Hong Kong, has an "Eco-Couture" collection of bags made from recycled advertising banners. Hong Kong churns through a ton of thick, weather-proof vinyl for outdoors banners, which just happens to make for really durable handbags.

Since each piece of vinyl from advertising is unique, and no printing is added to the bags, each is a one-of-a-kind original. And just for good measure, 091 are kicking some of the profits to the World Wildlife Fund. Now that’s eco-friendly.

The is in the bag.
